To police or not to police

Most police stations are opened on the demand of politicians. They are never need felt. It would be better to let people be rather than open police stations all over the country. It is only the urban areas and troublesome rural areas that need policing. There is absolutely no need to open PSs in remote areas based on knee jerk reactions which arise in the wake of abrupt riots or other law and order problems. A riot once in a while in a remote area should be taken as a business risk and handled, rather than establishing a permanent police presence. In this age of advanced communications, good roads and mobility, PSs should be minimum in number, especially in the rural areas. As for urban areas, police presence is imperative. Police should be omnipresent, accessible and responsive.
